Oredo 5-Aside Football: Obaseki Pledges To Harness Students Talent

The Chairman of Oredo local government chairman, Mr. Tom Obaseki has pledged to harness the talents of students from various schools in Oredo Local Government area.

Obaseki made the assertion in a press conference with members of Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN), Edo state branch, Benin city.

He asserted that the game is a one of a kind talent development sport idea by an Local Government in Nigeria.

 
" Gentle Men and Ladies of the Press, I welcome you to another epoch making event from the Stables of Oredo Government Council.

"In continuation of our annual sporting calendar known as OredoGames 2024.

" We are proud to announce the commencement of Oredo Schools 5-Aside Football Championship.

"This competition will have Students from various schools in Oredo Local Government Area battling it out on the pitch to be crowned the ultimate 5-Aside Football champion with various individual and collective prizes to be won.

"The games will commence May 2, 2024 and come to a climax in 13th, July 2024.  Uwa Primary School, Owegie Primary School, New Era College and Anglican Girls Grammar School will play host to all games.

"Distinguished residents of Oredo and environs, let me use this opportunity to invite you to be part of this noble initiative to develop talents in Oredo by "Catching them Young", come and show support to the future of football in Nigeria.

"To Ensure Sustainability of this Initiative we are partnering with the Edo State Sports Commission, 70s Grill and Edo State Drivers Welfare Scheme.

"We have also secured the participation of an international scout to ensure that outstanding talents are given international Exposure.

"This is a one of a kind talent development sport initiative by an Local Government in Nigeria and we believe that at the end of this event international stars will be born in Oredo," he added.

The press conference also witnessed questions and answers from journalists who covered the event.
