NWFL Crown: Obaseki To Honour Victorious Edo Queens

In fulfillment of Governor Godwin Obaseki's  promises,Edo State government has scheduled a grand reception in Government House in honour of Edo Queens Football club of Benin who were crowned champions of the Nigeria Women Football League Premiership on Sunday.

The victorious Edo Queens won the nation's women premier Football League for the first time at the Samson Siasia Stadium,Yenagoa in Bayelsa state on Sunday after a successful Super Six outing at the expense of former champions Bayelsa Queens,Rivers Angels and Nasarawa Amazons.

According to the schedules as showed in the Sports Commission circular,the reception is expected to begin at 10:00 AM,beginning at the Western Boys High School Gate,Ikpoba Hill.The warm embrace of the First Lady,Dr Betsy Obaseki,Edo Sports Commission Olympian Yussuf Alli and other top government functionaries awaits the reigning Nigeria women premier League champions at the School gate and lead the to Government House for the reception proper by the Governor.

The Governor of Edo state Mr Godwin Obaseki and his wife, Dr. Betsey Obaseki congratulated the victorious Edo Queens on their triumph at the Nigeria Women Football League Premiership Super Six to emerge champions for the first time in Nigeria's football history on Sunday.


The sports loving Edo state governor and First Lady who called the victorious Edo Queens immediately after the final match at the Samson Siasia stadium in Yenagoa expressed their joy and promised to accord them a grand reception on their return from Awka where they were scheduled to play against Rivers Angels in the round 16 of the ongoing President Federation cup.

On the road to the finals, Edo Queens demolished Confluence Queens 5-1 to begin the title race on a bright note before going ahead to beat Heartland 3-1 and Nasarawa Amazons 1-0 respectively to lift the cup.

More so,  the Executive chairman of the Edo state Sports Commission Olympian Yussuf Alli has called on all members of Edo sports family and fans to join in the celebration of the Queens. 

Alli said that the girls achievement this season is worth celebrating. He directed staff of the sports commission and Bendel Insurance to come out in their large numbers for the celebration of victory for Edo state.
