Owerri To Host NUJ Triennial Delegates Conference ln Nov
The Triennial Delegates Conference of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) is scheduled to take place in Owerri, Imo State, from November 28-30, 2024.
In preparation, a 9-member Credentials Committee has been established to oversee the union's election, which will usher in a new executive team.
The committee is chaired by Comrade Mike Ikeogwu, former Chairman of the Delta State Council of the union.
During a recent Zoom meeting, the National Executive Council (NEC) extended the deadline for State Councils to pay their 2023 Professional Fees and Check Off Dues to December 31, 2023. An extension of six weeks was also granted for the 2024 payments.
The NEC unanimously agreed to extend the tenure of the current Central Working Committee (CWC) until the Triennial Delegates Conference.
However, aspirants who fail to fulfill their financial obligations to the union within the specified period will not benefit from this extension.
On national issues, the NEC urged President Bola Tinubu to address critical concerns that would provide immediate relief to Nigerians.
It condemned the violence during recent nationwide #ENDBADGOVERNANCE Protests and criticized the unprofessional conduct of security personnel during the protests, especially the assaults on journalists.
NEC emphasized the need for security forces to act with civility and professionalism while urging journalists to prioritize their safety.
The NEC passed a vote of confidence in NUJ President Comrade Chris Isiguzo MFR and other CWC members for their meritorious service to the union.
