Stakeholders In Health Sector Strategize On How To Strengthen System

Edo State stakeholders meeting for social and behavioral change communication forum has been held with a call happatis members ,professionals in the forum to work assiduously ,and strengthen synergy with the various partners and donor Agencies in the health sector to achieve the desired results.
The meeting which was facilitated by the The Challenge Initiative TCI focused attention on key areas , especially attaining the over all objectives of the SBCC aimed at reviewing SBCC strategies and their impact on public health in Edo State.
"Developing action plans for upcoming SBCC campaigns and adopt innovative approaches to behavioral change communication in our Local context remains core values"
Director of public health, Ministry of Health Edo State,Dr Stephenson Ojeifo represented by the state family reproductive health officer Mrs Adja Abieyuwa said Edo State Government has strengthen primary health care centers ,renovated and provided facilities ,drugs and personnel to enhance efficient service delivery.
Commenting on the overview of the State Healthcare System, Mrs. Abieyuwa said," we are supposed to refer the women from primary, secondary to the tertiary. But, the reverse is the case because the awareness is not there, and that is where we want you to come in.
" That is why we need this body. We know presently women if they have malaria where they go is the tertiary. Whereas, they supposed to be different stages they supposed to go, but they don't know.
"The awareness is not there, if the awareness is there they will know where to go when they are sick. Is only when they have complications they will be refer. The referral system needs to be strengthened, but awareness is the key," she posited.
Edo State Ministry of Health assist the entire health system in Edo state. It provides quality, policy direction, coordinations, monitoring and evaluation in all areas of health sector in the state.
She said they want to look at the area of creating more awareness in the area of youths. Mrs. Abieyuwa said if the youths are doing well, the state and country will be doing well.
Edo State coordinator of the world Health Organization,Dr Nora Eyon reiterated the determination of WHO to continue in rendering support to Edo State to combat the scourge of diseases especially LASSA fever prevalent in some Local Government Areas in Edo State.
Speaking on preventing and Responding to sexual exploitations,Abuse and harassment,Mrs Grace Ireoto said many Girls,have been sexually abused ,some concealed by their parents as a result of obnoxious cultural and religious practices.
She called on Girls and women to speak up when ever they are sexually molested and other violent crimes against humanity is perpetrated against them.
" What are those things that you can encounter when you are trying to enforce this behavioural changes. We are talking about immunisation. Look at our society today, and if you go to any immunisation clinic, 99.9% of people are women.
"Is it just women duty? Our husbands don't care and is not supposed to be like that. That is why we are addressing it today. That is why we are having those issues.
" You talk about the vaccines that suppose to be for everybody, hepatitis B, Covid-19, etc. and anything that has to do with men. They say is for women, but is it really like that? No. But I am happy the training is coming at this time.
" So when it comes to PRSEAH, it means, preventing, responding to sexual exploitation abuse and harassment. We have find ourselves in a very complex society where in the process of discharging our duty. We see a lot of things that we are supposed to talk about and address.
" But, because of some organizational rules, regards, protocols and policies, we are silence about this and these things continue to go and hinder the objectives of the organizations or activities.
" We need to achieve our objectives irrespective of what is going on. The idea is to create a very conducive working environments or a system free from any kind of vices that will prevent you from any kind of vices for discharging your duties rightly.
" Or preventing the beneficiaries of receiving what is due for them in a very free will in an environment such as everybody is happy," Ireoto added.
There were various presentations by the various partners, driving the SBCC mandates to ensure an effective dissemination of information about the program.
