Edo Govt Remain Committed To Supporting  CMC, CRD--Hon Osagie's 

...Says They Have Attended To 634 Civil Matters

The Attorney General of Edo state and Commissioner for Justice, Hon.  Samson Osagie Esq, said since inception the citizens meditation centre, has received and attended to 634 civil matters, covering a range of disputes, including inheritance conflicts, matrimonial cases, employer-employee disagreements, landlord-tenant issues, property disputes, inter-communal clashes, and matters involving government entities.

Hon. Samson Osagie Esq, made the statements in a press briefing on the activities and achievements of the Citizens' Meditation Centre (CMC) and the Citizens' Rights Department (CRD), Benin city, Edo state, said  70% of these cases have been resolved amicably, preventing unnecessary litigation.

He asserted,"The CMC has engaged in consistent sensitization campaigns through radio, television, social media, workshops, and public rallies.

 "These efforts have increased citizens’ awareness of mediation as a viable alternative to litigation and have encouraged peaceful dispute resolution across Edo State.


"The Centre was created to serve as a platform for Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR), offering free mediation services to indigent and vulnerable citizens who may otherwise struggle to navigate the formal justice system. 

"The vision of the centre is simple but profound- a peaceful Edo State sustained by the harmonious coexistence of her residents.
The CMC has diligently pursued its mission of fostering a culture of conflict resolution among citizens.

" Through its operations, the Centre has facilitated quick and amicable resolutions of disputes, thereby reducing the backlog of cases in our courts and mitigating potential social unrest.

"The Citizens’ Mediation Centre and the Citizens Rights Centres have played indispensable roles in promoting peace, justice, and social harmony in Edo State.

"By providing free and quick access to justice.we have significantly reduced the burden on our formal judicial system and contributed to a more cohesive society."

Osagie's equally thanked Senator Monday Okpebholo, for remaining committed to supporting the CMC and CRC to ensure that they continue to thrive as key pillars in our justice sector reforms.

Given her remarks, the Permanent Secretary, Edo State Ministry of Justice, Mrs. Charity Ebosele, said the model was copied from Lagos.

In his contribution, 
Edo State Director of Citizens Meditation Centre (CMC), Melody Omosah Esq, said, CMC was established in 2018, and is the first time its services is make public by the Ministry of Justice at the highest level.
