The 2025 MTN Edo State Football League reached an electrifying conclusion on Sunday, July 27, 2025, at the Dr. Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium in Benin City, with BJ Foundation Football Club emerging victorious against Ancient Intelligence Football Academy in a closely contested final, winning 2-1 and securing the league title.

The championship match was a thrilling display of athletic skill and tactics, with both teams exhibiting commendable resilience. Ancient Intelligence Academy, under the strategic guidance of their coach, demonstrated exceptional determination, challenging BJ Foundation throughout the exciting encounter.

While the victory was a proud moment for BJ Foundation, it also highlighted the aspirations of Ancient Intelligence Academy and its founder, Ambassador Ikponmwosa Clement. During the closing ceremony, Ambassador Ikponmwosa reaffirmed his dedication to the growth of grassroots football in Edo State, highlighting the region’s wealth of untapped talent. He expressed his commitment to creating opportunities for the youth, stating, "Our football academy acts as a launching pad for young talents in Edo. We’ve built this platform to allow these gifted individuals to shine in the world of football. I believe that in the near future, some of these players will find themselves competing on European fields."

Ambassador Ikponmwosa emphasized that Edo is a hub for football talent in Nigeria, encouraging the youth to seize the opportunities that will arise.

Mr. Fred Newton Erhumwunse, Chairman of the Edo State Football Association, also expressed his gratitude during his speech at the ceremony, appreciating all those who contributed to the success of the 2025 league season. He acknowledged the efforts of the teams, coaches, supporters, and media members dedicated to promoting grassroots football in the state.

Special recognition was given to the Local Organizing Committee (LOC), with particular thanks to Vice Chairman Mr. Paul Ojeisekhoba and Secretary Mr. Adebisi Richard, for their outstanding organizational skills that facilitated the smooth execution of the league. Their efforts were deemed vital to the event’s triumph.

As they move forward, both BJ Foundation FC and Ancient Intelligence FC are gearing up to represent Edo State in the Nationwide League One (NLO) playoffs, hopeful to carry their successful momentum onto a national platform.

Finally, the Edo State Football Association expressed its sincere appreciation to MTN Nigeria, the title sponsor of the league, for their unwavering support.
