The Executive Chairman of the Edo State Sports Commission, Hon. Amadin Desmond Enabulele, has congratulated Nigeria’s senior national team, the Super Eagles, on their hard-fought third-place finish at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), describing the achievement as a proud moment for the nation and a strong statement of character by the team.

In a statement issued by his Media Officer, Edoko Wilson Edoko, Enabulele praised the Super Eagles for ending the tournament on a high note, highlighting their resilience, discipline, and mental strength in the tense third-place encounter against Egypt, which ended goalless after regulation time before Nigeria triumphed 4–2 on penalties.

According to him, the team’s performance, particularly in the face of stiff Egyptian resistance, reflected the true Nigerian spirit of determination and belief. He commended the technical crew led by Coach Eric Chelle for their tactical awareness, singling out the impact of key substitutions that injected renewed energy into the game, as well as the composure displayed during the penalty shootout.

Hon. Enabulele also applauded goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali, the man of the match for his decisive role from the spot, noting that such performances underscore the depth of quality and mental toughness within the squad.

“The Super Eagles have once again shown that Nigeria remains a respected force in African football. Securing the third-place position after a challenging tournament speaks volumes about the team’s character and their refusal to bow to pressure,” Enabulele stated.

He urged the players to build on the positives from the tournament, assuring them of the continued support of Nigerians at home and in the diaspora, while expressing confidence that brighter days lie ahead for the national team.
