...As Oba of Benin Intensifies Efforts To Return Stolen Artefacts

As part of the activities to mark the 10th Coronation Anniversary of the Oba of Benin, the Palace has asserted that the event will witnessed different cultural groups from various part of the country to  showcase the cultural heritage during the occasion.

Also, during the ceremony, the first lady of the Federal Republic of Nigeria Senator Oluremi Tinubu, CON, will grace the occasion to perform a vital function.

The palace also averred  that during the line up activities there will be food festival, Art and photo exhibition, trade fair and skills acquisition at Oba Akenzua Cultural centre, on Friday 9th, 2026.


Addressing journalist in a press conference at the activities line up for the celebration,Chairman of the 10th Coronation Anniversary Committee,  His Excellency,  Lucky Imasuen, said there will be exhibition of various Artefacts to be displayed at the museum ground.

He said Saturday 10th of October will be cultural day celebration, and cultural display from the 18 Local government areas in Edo state. He explained that other cultural groups are coming from Delta, Ondo, Anambra states and many other part of the country.

 Imasuen's said they decided to call the press conference to enlighten the general public to know the dates of each ceremony outlined by the Benin Monarch and to call on the public to participate in this life time event. 

According to him, said the 10th Coronation Anniversary will feature the Calabar Carnival which will take place at the old scart ground near Ogba Zoo.

The committee chairman said the ceremony will feature Novelty football match at Ogbe stadium at 2:pm on the 18th October. He said it also provide skills acquisition for indigenes of Edo state by the Oba of Benin to empower them.

He said on Monday 12th October, 2026, there will also be a memorial lecture  on Oba Erediuwa,  University of Benin at 10:am

He said Edo state particularly, Benin city is in a celebration mood, that  the purpose of the celebration is as a result of the 10th Coronation Anniversary of the Oba of Benin.

Imasuen's said Oba Ewuare II has intensified his efforts to return the stolen artefacts to the Benin Kingdom.

He said on the 19-21 November,2026 there will be an exhibition of Artefacts by the National Commission for Museum and Monument (NCMM), at Museum ground King's Square.

Imasuen's said those artefacts that was stolen by the British invaders in 1897 will be displayed on that very day.

He said since the Oba of Benin ascend the throne Edo state has witnessed a tremendous peace and progress.

Imasuen's therefore appealed to journalists to make sure they attend all the events that without them there is no way the world will know that such ceremony is going on in Benin city, Edo State.

He said on the 21st November,2026, at the grand reception there will be beauty pageant, command performance by guest artists and award presentation to deserving Nigerians.

The committee boss said governors from the South-South region, private investors, ambassadors, traditional rulers, men and women who have excel in their various fields will be honoured and grace the occasion.
