NPFL Matchday 10 Preview: Bendel Insurance Eager To End Rivers United's Strong Start In Benin

Bendel Insurance will look to recover from their 2-1 defeat to Sporting Lagos when they host Rivers United in Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) Matchday 10 fixture on Sunday.

The match is scheduled for the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium in Benin, with kick-off at 4pm. It offers the Benin Arsenals a chance to halt the impressive start to the season made by the former league champions from Port Harcourt.

Recent meetings between both sides have been tightly contested, producing draws and narrow wins for either team. In the 2025/26 season, their first meeting in Benin ended goalless at the Samuel Ogbemudia stadium.

Speaking ahead of the Sunday clash,Insurance head coach Kennedy Boboye said his players are confident of turning the tide against the visitors.

"We are ready for Rivers United on Sunday, October 25. We know them and they know our strength. This time, they won't go back with any point. We are aiming for maximum points," Boboye said.

"We respect them, but they can't intimidate us at our fortress. Our team is in good shape despite some injury concerns. I believe we are good to go."
Boboye acknowledged that Rivers United have been impressive this season, but insisted their run would suffer a setback in Benin.

The defeat to Sporting Lagos in Matchday 8 left Insurance 10th on the table with 12 points. They are yet to play their Matchday 9 fixture against Rangers International, which was postponed to allow the Enugu club to honour their CAF Champions League tie against Algeria's MC Alger at the MKO Abiola Stadium last Sunday, October 18.

The postponement left Insurance idle last weekend. No new date has been announced for the rescheduled match.
